A Brand New Me

I got my hair cut this week, and was thinking that I should maybe also get a new hair color, and maybe also a tan, and maybe also a new job, and some new contacts.  So, I did! 

First the hair color.  There is an incredibly nice and talented girl named Erika who works at Supercuts.  She has done some amazing work and I really like her so I was very happy when I found out she wasn't in fact moving away!  Yay me!  I can have consistently pretty hair for once in my life! 

So she cut my hair a cople of days ago, and planted a little seed.  She says to me "You know what would look really hot with that hair style?"  I said, "No, but I don't care, I'll take three please!"

Chandler pointed out ever so kindly that I looked like the flying nun for a while in the middle.  But I think the end results were pretty great!  See below.  You can click for big on any of the pictures.

Now the job.  I have decided to take the position at the new fine arts charter school.  It's going to be a huge change for me and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared half to death about it.  But I do believe it will be a good thing for me and for my family.  I am really going to miss my friends and my students at my current school. 

No Knitting for YOU

tI've been too busy and my eyes are too bad to knit.  Phooey!  I'm just itching to finish something.  Like maybe the sweater sitting on my table, or the socks I'm making, or well....just anything would be nice right about now.

On the Needles

I've been knitting along on the Split Neck T from Knitting Pure and Simple.  I'm using Lion Brand (new) Cotton-Ease in a lovely terracotta color.  I like this pattern and it's a super easy knit, but it's getting a little boring. 

I was at first VERY disappointed in the yarn, however.  The skeins were just full of knots.  One after the other, they kept coming.  One skein had around 10 knots!  The others had anywhere from 2-7 knots.  I was just disgusted!  I couldn't return the yarn simply because I had purchased it online.  So I sent a complaint through the Lion Brand website.  I got a response from them within 24 hours and around 10 days later, I had 10 replacement skeins of the yarn.  While I am extremely pleased with the service from Lion Brand, I am also almost finished with the sweater...knots and all, so I'm not going to rip it out.  Also, the two dye lots are extremely different, so I can't combine them.  This means, I've got 10 balls of cotton-ease and no clue what I'm going to do with them.  Any suggestions?  It's a little over 2,000 yards, but I don't want to make another sweater.  Who needs two sweaters of the same color?

Rebecca Shawl Finished!

I finished and blocked the Rebecca shawl.  I think it turned out very well. 
There were a few things that I learned during this project:

1.  I am not ready for lace in laceweight yarn.
2.  I need to pick smaller, quicker projects for a while.
3.  I must stop knitting late at night!  I make too many mistakes and end up 
     ripping back and re-knitting the project!  I could have knitted this shawl   
     twice over if I hadn't made so many mistakes.

I gave the shawl to my dear friend, Mrs. Phyllish, who has done so many nice things for me this year.  I hope she enjoys the shawl!  You can click the pictures for bigger versions.

How To Clean Your Room

1.  Play until Mom yells and takes away the TV.

2. Play some more until Mom comes.

3.  Hide until Mom comes back again.

4.  Forget you're hiding and fall asleep.

Spring Break Is Finally Here!

I am sooo glad that Spring Break is here.  I know the students are happy, but they have no clue how much the teachers look forward to it too!  Toby's off working, so the kids and I are on our own.  We may go do a little hiking or caving this week for some time out of the house depending on the weather.  I want to go here, here, here, and here during Spring Break.

Last week, Chandler and I went to Cosmic Cavern in Berryville, AR.  It was a wonderful trip and we had a great time!  The cave was wonderful.  Click here to see some of my favorite photos from the trip.

Spring is Coming!

It's finally warming up some here in the mountains and I couldn't be happier! Last weekend we decided to take the top off of the Jeep and go for a ride. We rode through the Lake Weddington area and wound up about 4 miles from the Oklahoma line! It was such a nice day and I can't wait to go through there again when things start blooming. Here are some photos I took along the roadside. The boulders were just awesome! The kids had such a fabulous time climbing the rocks!
